GamFratesi has designed the Coupé bed for Poltrona Frau which, as its name suggests, pays homage to the classic padded elegance of the great sports cars. Clean and distinct aerodynamic lines, upholstered by hand using soft Pelle Frau® leather, delineate an intimate and comfortable space designed for two. Particular attention has been focused on the relationship between the headboard and the bed frame: two distinct geometric forms which, while maintaining their individuality, meet harmoniously in a subtle game of balance and power that exalts the fluid and compact lines of the overall design. The frame of the Coupé bed, rigorous and minimalist, is softened by the precious Pelle Frau® leather upholstery which completely covers its surface. The precious stitching converges towards the leather headboard which is made from solid beech, birch plywood and infill produced from hardboard panels, and lightly padded with polyurethane foam. The two moulded lateral parts are made from moulded polyurethane foam. An inclusive and welcoming design that embraces the bed without overpowering it. The soft horizontal cushion in removable fabric or leather, also embroidered in the De Luxe version, becomes part of the headboard, enhancing its originality, and the different textures and materials of the upholstery underline the purity of the design and the balance of proportions. The slender metal feet with gunmetal grey finish add extra sleekness and lightness to the structure, which is made from spruce blockboard and poplar plywood and strengthened with steel sheet structural elements painted black. The Coupé bed is suitable for bed bases and mattresses of 200 cm or 210 cm in length, with the exception of the "Queen-size" and "King-size” versions.

About Designer
GamFratesi

Stine Gam, Danish architect with a master in furniture design. Enrico Fratesi Italian architect graduated with a master in industrial design. Gam and Fratesi gained experience as architects in architecture studio in Japan and Scandinavia before establishing their own design studio.

The studio is based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi have received significant awards including Finn Juhl Prize 2015, Elle Decoration International design award (EDIDA) as International Young Designer of the Year 2013, Wallpaper* Design Award as Best interior 2017, Best Designer 2015 by BoBedre, Best Designer 2009 by RUM, Invited as Guest of Honor at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014. With their products GamFratesi received final selection Compasso D’Oro, IF Award, German Design Awards and Good Design Awards.
