E020 Embrace Table
Designed by Austrian
trio EOOS for Carl Hansen & Søn, the Embrace Table E020 is a stylish
reinterpretation of a furniture staple, created as part of the intelligent
Embrace Series. Crafted from three components, the design has a wooden base, a
steel wire structure and a round tabletop. The result is a distinctive,
sculptural expression inspired by a kite blowing in the wind; with table legs
that have been pulled to the center to maximize legroom, the piece provides
optimal functionality.
The tabletop is
circular and designed to facilitate communication between people as the round
shape and added legroom highlights social interaction. Contrasted by the
lightness of the frame, the wooden tabletop seems to float on the stable frame
and will merge seamlessly with the Embrace Chair and Embrace Armchair.
Designed by EOOS, the
Embrace Series unites the design trio’s innovative design approach with the
elegant craftsmanship and heritage of Carl Hansen & Søn.

Gernot
Bohmann was born in 1968 in Krieglach/Styria, Harald Gründl in 1967 in Vienna
and Martin Bergmann in 1963 in Lienz/East Tyrol. They studied industrial design together at the University of Applied Arts
Vienna and then founded EOOS in 1995. The studios name is inspired from
Ovid´s Metamorphosis, the name of one of the four chariot horses of the
sun god Helios. EOOS developed “Poetical Analysis” as a research tool that the
designers use to investigate rituals, myths and intuitive imagery and
employ as the departure point for their designs. For EOOS, design is a
poetical discipline, which oscillates between the realm of the archaic and
high-tech. EOOS works with the 360degree concept, trying to analyze every
object from every possible angle with the poetry always positioned at the
center. Today EOOS operates in the fields of furniture, product and social
design for clients such as Armani, Adidas, Alessi, Bene, Bite Beauty, the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bulthaup, Caritas, Carl Hansen &
Søn, Dedon, Duravit, Fürstenberg, Geiger, Herman Miller, Hussl, Keilhauer,
Lamy, Nuki, Poltrona Frau, Walter Knoll and Zumtobel. In 2016 EOOS
represented Austria at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice
with their project social furniture. The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied
Arts / Contemporary Art – celebrated the work of EOOS with the first major
solo exhibition in 2015. In this context the monograph „by: EOOS“
(Birkhäuser/Basel) was released. . In 2007, the EOOS-founders
were nominated by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and the
readers of the daily newspaper „Die Presse“ to „Austrians of the Year”. To
date EOOS has received over 160 international design awards among them the
Italian design prize “Compasso’Oro” for the Auditorium seating system
“Kube”, produced by Poltrona Frau, the “Design Award of the federal
Republic of Germany” in gold, 35 Red Dot awards, 26 IF awards, 11 Good Design
awards and several Wallpaper, Elle Deco and AZ awards. For the redesign of a
toilet EOOS has received a „Special Recognition for Outstanding Design“
from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. |
