Mesa
An icon of formal purity
designed in 1985 by Lella and
Massimo Vignelli and now re-released by Poltrona Frau. The Mesa table is formed by combining
two simple geometric shapes, a circle and a cone. The result is a strong and
tangible, almost sculptural table, but with a lightness that comes from the
simplicity of the design. The Mesa table has a Ligurian slate top which, thanks
to the traditional splitting technique, maintains the rock’s natural grooves
and lines on the surface. A lower shelf in burnished steel sheet metal provides
further stability and resistance. The load bearing column is in grey pietra
serena with a plastic shaped tip inserted in the base. The joint between the
top and the column is made of tubular burnished steel to which a three-bracket
joint plate is attached so it is possible to alter the position of the top.
