The distinguishing trait of the Vertigo Daybed is its dual identity. Inspired by the cool main character from the Alfred Hitchcock film, this EOOS design for Poltrona Frau is perfect for the executive office, welcoming visitors and allowing them to take the weight off their feet for a few minutes with its contained dimensions, clean design and ergonomics. But it is also perfect in the home thanks to the beauty of the processing and the materials and its ability to transform into a comfortable sofa bed for guests. The elements of the Vertigo daybed are pared down to their simplest form, each one performing its function with rigour and elegance. The technical mechanism becomes an aesthetic and completely visible feature. The tubular metal structure, with its sophisticated gunmetal grey finish, is the result of in-depth mechanical engineering research. The complex system of levers and joints makes the movement fast and precise. Just hold the handle under the seat and push it down, pulling the bar at the back outwards: the mechanism opens with a pivot motion and the Vertigo turns into a bed. The backrest and seat structure is made from solid poplar and poplar plywood panels. The metal structure of the mechanism, equipped with gas springs to guarantee a smooth and continuous motion, is made from iron rods with gunmetal grey finish. Padded in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The upholstery comes in Pelle Frau® leather or in versions that combine saddle-leather with leather or fabric or leather with fabric, always with tone-on-tone stitching. The rectangular cushions are padded with goose down. The two rectangular cushions enable Vertigo to be used in various ways: positioned at the sides and fixed with precious saddle-leather belts to the two cylindrical cushions, they become comfortable armrests. Placed on the backrest they act as lumbar cushions and become pillows in the open configuration.

About Designer
EOOS

Gernot Bohmann was born in 1968 in Krieglach/Styria, Harald Gründl in 1967 in Vienna and Martin Bergmann in 1963 in Lienz/East Tyrol. They studied industrial design together at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and then founded EOOS in 1995. The studios name is inspired from Ovid´s Metamorphosis, the name of one of the four chariot horses of the sun god Helios. EOOS developed “Poetical Analysis” as a research tool that the designers use to investigate rituals, myths and intuitive imagery and employ as the departure point for their designs. For EOOS, design is a poetical discipline, which oscillates between the realm of the archaic and high-tech. EOOS works with the 360degree concept, trying to analyze every object from every possible angle with the poetry always positioned at the center. Today EOOS operates in the fields of furniture, product and social design for clients such as Armani, Adidas, Alessi, Bene, Bite Beauty, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bulthaup, Caritas, Carl Hansen & Søn, Dedon, Duravit, Fürstenberg, Geiger, Herman Miller, Hussl, Keilhauer, Lamy, Nuki, Poltrona Frau, Walter Knoll and Zumtobel. In 2016 EOOS represented Austria at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice with their project social furniture. The MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art – celebrated the work of EOOS with the first major solo exhibition in 2015. In this context the monograph „by: EOOS“ (Birkhäuser/Basel) was released. . In 2007, the EOOS-founders were nominated by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and the readers of the daily newspaper „Die Presse“ to „Austrians of the Year”. To date EOOS has received over 160 international design awards among them the Italian design prize “Compasso’Oro” for the Auditorium seating system “Kube”, produced by Poltrona Frau, the “Design Award of the federal Republic of Germany” in gold, 35 Red Dot awards, 26 IF awards, 11 Good Design awards and several Wallpaper, Elle Deco and AZ awards. For the redesign of a toilet EOOS has received a „Special Recognition for Outstanding Design“ from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
