Times Lounge
The design principles
that made the Times bed unique are revisited in the Times Lounge armchair to create a
timeless seat which combines an advanced construction technique with
understated and mellow contemporary aesthetics. Designed by Spalvieri & Del Ciotto for Poltrona Frau, the Times Lounge
armchair has a sophisticated and ultra-light structure and a cover which
naturally assumes its forms like a tailored suit, making it soft and welcoming.
The materials blend together and amalgamate, their functional role lost in
order to create a highly distinctive singular image. The soft wadding embraces
the elegant solid wood and Pelle Frau® leather structure to form an armchair of
unrivalled comfort. The large leather bands become an integral part of the
structure to create a balanced spring system that supports the padding covered
in fabric or Pelle Frau® leather, which is completely removable and
interchangeable. The structure is produced from solid ash in a Moka or Wengé
stain. The wood has a circular cross section in the visible parts and an oval
cross section for the lower connecting beams. The armchair cushion support
embraces the wooden structure and is made from Pelle Frau® leather. A
supporting technical textile located under the seat acts as a spring. The seat
and backrest cushions are padded with polyurethane foam and polyester wadding
while the armrests are padded with polyester wadding. The lining of the
backrest and armrest cushions is stitched as a single element, the lining of
the seat cushion is separate and attached to the rest of the lining. The
cushions are secured to the structure using hidden zips and snap buttons. The
cushions can also be covered with Pelle Frau® leather and fabric. In both cases
the cover can be removed. A supplementary cover can be purchased separately.

Spalvieri & Del Ciotto |
Both born
in 1982, Simone Spalvieri and Valentina Del Ciotto met in 2003. Graduates in
Industrial and Interior Design respectively from Milan Polytechnic, they
immediately became a couple both in life and work. Spalvieri & Del Ciotto
design studio is a meeting place that brings together ideas, research and
experimentation. Their work, characterised by formal and functional purity, is
based on the idea that every design product must be a value to pass onto the
future generations, containing and celebrating a piece of our history and our
culture. They seek, through design, to humanise new materials and new
technologies with the goal of helping us to understand and use the most
innovative objects more easily. They collaborate with some of the most
interesting Italian and international design companies: Poltrona Frau, Magis,
Established&Sons, Lexon, Fratelli Guzzini, Arena Waterinstinct, Mamoli and
Colombo Design. In 2013 they were the winners of the “Top Young Italian
Industrial Designers Prize” and were rewarded by Massimo Vignelli with the Slow
Design Exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York. They have won
international prizes like the Red Dot Award, the China Good Design and the
German Design Award.
