Gam Fratesi took their inspiration from the traditional sewing basket when designing the modern and highly elegant Cestlavie accessories. The textural sensations of the saddle-leather and the lightness of the metal design come together in an evocative and stylish visual synthesis.

Intricate processing showcases the leather culture and top-quality craftsmanship with which Poltrona Frau has always been associated. Skilfully handwoven straps of Cuoio Saddle Extra leather give form to the casing, one by one. Supported by a tubular aluminium structure, the Cestlavie storage basket appears to be suspended on slender, almost graphic, steel legs. The depth of the saddle-leather and the clean metal create interesting light effects. Cestlavie is a storage “basket” but also a side table. The top part, upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather, has a disk-shaped folding cover that provides access to the inside whilst also acting as a practical surface. Every detail is valuable. The interwoven strips of saddle-leather are dyed tone-on-tone, also at the edges, using techniques typically associated with the finest small leather goods. The saddle-leather is also refined on the inside surface with a transparent protective wax treatment. Galvanic treatment for the steel frame with gunmetal grey or burnished and blasted finish.

About Designer
GamFratesi

Stine Gam, Danish architect with a master in furniture design. Enrico Fratesi Italian architect graduated with a master in industrial design. Gam and Fratesi gained experience as architects in architecture studio in Japan and Scandinavia before establishing their own design studio.

The studio is based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi have received significant awards including Finn Juhl Prize 2015, Elle Decoration International design award (EDIDA) as International Young Designer of the Year 2013, Wallpaper* Design Award as Best interior 2017, Best Designer 2015 by BoBedre, Best Designer 2009 by RUM, Invited as Guest of Honor at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014. With their products GamFratesi received final selection Compasso D’Oro, IF Award, German Design Awards and Good Design Awards.
